Kenos Tabernacle is part of the history of beginnings, firstborns, pioneers, and scouts. It stands as a testament to faith, courage, and a visionary spirit that fosters innovation rather than imitation.
A small people with a great God - symbolizing humility and modesty while quietly accomplishing our work, much like the sun that illuminates the earth without making any noise.
2000-2003: The Beginning
As the pathway to South Africa opened with the arrival of pioneering Congolese missionaries in Cape Town, a major concentration emerged in the southern part of the city known as the Southern Suburbs. Between 2001 and 2003, three message churches were established in Muizenberg, the reference neighborhood in the False Bay area.
2004: A New Vision
Upon returning from a missionary trip to Namibia, the apostle of the South took the initiative to explore the northern part of Cape Town. This region had not been evangelized and was deemed undesirable by many due to perceived dangers. The very first missionary station, Kenos Tabernacle, was established in the Northern Suburbs in 2004, far from the other existing churches (35 km away).
June 6, 2004: First Public Service
The public launch and start of worship services began at the corner of Alexandra Street and Tygerberg Street in the spiritually dry community of Parow. Six people attended this first public service. It began with door-to-door evangelism, marking a new chapter in the Northern Suburbs.
2004-2017: Growth and Transformation
Similar to when David defeated Goliath, inspiring all of Israel to courageously attack the Philistines, fear diminished for many individuals who then chose to settle in the area. The church moved from apartments to house and hotel room before finding a permanent facility. The community of Parow now hosts over 50 expatriate churches, both denominational and message-based.
2017: Building Dedication
God rewarded Kenos Tabernacle with its own place, remaining unaffiliated with existing trends. It operates independently in its programs and schedule. The building was unanimously dedicated by locals and expatriates in 2017, becoming the very first expatriate church to build its own temple in the Northern Suburbs.
Today: A Legacy of Faith
The new center of radiant blessings has become the Parow neighborhood. Kenos Tabernacle continues to write its own story, carving new paths instead of following well-trodden ones, preaching new messages instead of repeating others, and fostering innovation rather than imitation.
